Mia Habis was born in London in 1979. She started dancing at the age of three. She was trained in classical dance for twenty-eight years, in addition to having learned martial arts, theater and singing. She lived between Lebanon and France. She obtained her degree in French literature at the University of St-Joseph then at the Sorbonne Paris IV and then a Master's degree in marketing and advertising from the Ecole Supérieure de Publicité in Paris. Her training first led her to start as a dancer and teacher for Maqamat in 2008 for several years. She then began to engage in the creation and implementation of artistic concepts for the company's projects and implemented new marketing strategies aimed at raising awareness and expanding the public. At the same time, it develops multiple collaborations and long-term partnerships with local and international institutions. In 2015, she was appointed by the artistic committee, artistic director of the annual festival BIPOD - Beirut International Platform of Dance and of Moultaqa Leymoun, a platform created by Omar Rajeh to provide the space and the opportunity for Arab artists to present and develop their choreographic work. Habis is currently based in France and also directs the distribution and production of the company Omar Rajeh | Maqamat internationally. She is co-founder of the digital cultural platform Citerne.live.
Maqamat moved to Lyon in 2020 in the perspective of developing its creative and cultural projects in France and internationally. The company counts more than twenty choreographic creations in its repertoire and enjoys great recognition around the world. Maqamat was initially founded in 2002 in Beirut by choreographer Omar Rajeh. It emerged as a major organization in the creation and establishment of a contemporary dance scene in Lebanon and the region. Maqamat has founded major dance projects such as BIPOD-Beirut International Platform of Dance, Takween, an intensive training program, Moultaqa Leymoun, a showcase platform supporting artists from different Arab countries and more recently the online platform Citerne.live.
