Katarzyna Gdaniec – Choreographer - was born in Gdansk (Poland). She dedicated herself to artistic gymnastics from the age of eight and won the Artistic Gymnastics European Junior Championships. She entered Maurice Béjart’s Ballet du XXe Siècle in 1985 and remained with the company as principal dancer until 1992. As early as 1987 Katarzyna has been a choreographer; after creating her first works for the “Young Choreographers” workshop organized by the Ballet du XXe Siècle, she has devoted herself entirely to choreography since 1992. In 1992, Katarzyna Gdaniec and Marco Cantalupo realized their desire for independence and creativity by founding the Compagnie Linga. With the support of the City of Pully, the City of Lausanne, the Canton of Vaud and Pro Helvetia - Swiss Arts Council, they joined forces with the Octogone, Théâtre de Pully/Lausanne (CH) where they have been in residence since 1993. There they develop a space dedicated to choreographic research, staging a physical, sensual and powerful dance.
