Curated by Peggy Olislaegers, this 2 days conference will take place in Tirana, Albania, from 17 to 19  January 2025. It is part of the Creative Europe project SHIFT - Shaping Harmony, Innovating Forms & Thought, funded by the European Commission.  SHIFT is lead by Cie Omar Rajeh & Maqamat, Fondazione Fabbrica Europa per le arti contemporanee, and Albania Dance Meeting and in association with France Travail Scènes et Images - Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, Beit El Raqs (Lebanon), and Teatri Kombetar Eksperimental Kujtim Spahivogli (Albania).

In October 2024, took place the first activity of the project, On-Site Exploration in Florence, where artists, experts, and local citizens came together to experiment, brainstorm, and explore new performance formats in unconventional spaces. Four resident artists were invited in order to develop with the participants four case studies of artistic creations in non-dedicated performance spaces. 

In this next phase of the project, The Big Dance Lab  provides a deeper critical analysis to evaluate processes, share insights, and further refine ideas. This gathering brings together a group of artists, experts, and local professionals to consolidate and share knowledge on new performance formats, particularly in non-traditional spaces. This feedback loop is invaluable in setting the stage for reimagining the way we approach creation processes and deepening the connection between artists and audiences in the coming years.

En octobre 2024, la première activité du projet a eu lieu à Florence avec l'On-Site Exploration, où artistes, experts et citoyens locaux se sont réunis pour expérimenter, réfléchir et explorer de nouveaux formats de performance dans des espaces non conventionnels. Quatre artistes en résidence ont été invités à développer avec les participants quatre études de cas sur la création artistique dans des espaces de performance non dédiés.

Dans cette nouvelle phase du projet, The Big Dance Lab offre une analyse critique approfondie pour évaluer les processus, partager des perspectives et affiner davantage les idées. Cette rencontre réunit un groupe d'artistes, d'experts et de professionnels locaux afin de consolider et de partager les connaissances sur les nouveaux formats de performance, en particulier dans des espaces non traditionnels. Cette boucle de rétroaction est essentielle pour préparer le terrain à une révision des processus de création et approfondir la connexion entre artistes et publics dans les années à venir.

LE BIG DANCE LAB

Telescope Beirut is a one week creative lab offering a unique lens to explore, magnify, and discover new perspectives in dance and performance. Artists selected from across Europe and the Mediterranean will be accompanied by a group of professionals to advise, support, and inspire their ongoing projects.
 
Through an open call, we invite dancers and choreographers to apply with an ongoing project and participate in a 7-day mentorship lab; a week of dynamic exchanges, workshops, experimentation, open presentations and creation. Telescope Beirut aims to reimagine performance practices while fostering meaningful connections, enhancing skills, and expanding knowledge.

With guidance from a local and international team of experts, the participants explores creating for non-dedicated performance spaces and challenge conventional creative approaches. The project is committed to supporting selected artists in their creative journeys while raising awareness of new possibilities in creation, participation, engagement, and ecological behavior.

Selected participants would have contributed to this unique artistic journey and become part of the broader SHIFT project spanning Europe and the Mediterranean.

Telescope Beirut est un laboratoire créatif d'une semaine offrant un regard unique pour explorer, amplifier et découvrir de nouvelles perspectives dans la danse et la performance. Des artistes sélectionnés à travers l'Europe et la Méditerranée seront accompagnés d'un groupe de professionnels pour conseiller, soutenir et inspirer leurs projets en cours.

À travers un appel à candidatures, nous invitons les danseurs et chorégraphes à soumettre un projet en cours et à participer à un laboratoire de mentorat de 7 jours : une semaine d'échanges dynamiques, d'ateliers, d'expérimentations, de présentations ouvertes et de création. Telescope Beirut vise à réinventer les pratiques de performance tout en favorisant des connexions significatives, en améliorant les compétences et en élargissant les connaissances.

Sous la direction d’une équipe locale et internationale d’experts, les participants explorent la création pour des espaces de performance non dédiés et remettent en question les approches créatives conventionnelles. Le projet s'engage à soutenir les artistes sélectionnés dans leur parcours créatif tout en sensibilisant aux nouvelles possibilités de création, de participation, d'engagement et de comportements écologiques.

Les participants sélectionnés auront contribué à ce voyage artistique unique et deviendront une part du projet plus large SHIFT, qui s'étend à travers l'Europe et la Méditerranée.

Oecumene is an interactive dance and music piece that reflects on the role of the individual in the world, with her senses expanded through technology beyond the limits of her geographical birthplace or cultural identity of origin. The Oecumene is a term that comes from the Alexandrian ideal of Cosmopolis: the world inhabited as a whole, as the common possession of the civilised humanity of free men and women. A concept developed in this creation for a dancer and immersive sound design, in which she enters and interacts with a sonic tapestry composed of thousands of phonemes coming from multiple places on the planet.


Oecumene est une performance de danse et de musique interactive qui réfléchit  le rôle de l'individu dans le monde, avec ses sens élargis grâce à la technologie et au-delà des limites de son lieu de naissance géographique ou de son identité culturelle d'origine. L'Oecumene est un terme qui vient de l'idéal alexandrin de Cosmopolis: le monde habité dans son ensemble, comme possession commune de l'humanité civilisée d'hommes et de femmes libres. Un concept développé dans cette création pour une danseuse et une création sonore immersive, dans lesquels elle entre et interagit avec une tapisserie sonore composée de milliers de phonèmes provenant de multiples endroits de la planète.
