The listing in this page highlights the full program of different cultural institutions and/or festivals. Moreover, it highlights the cities where different events are taking place. From this page you can also access the individual city pages to discover other previous and future events that are, or were, programmed in the city. This pages highlights the full program of a festival or program and maintain its artistic vision and focus. Users will be able to access the festivals or specific programs and discover the performances, workshops, talks, and other activities of a festival or a cultural institution.

Each person mentioned on the Platform will have an individual page with a short biography and links to the artistic events, workshops, talks that s/he participated in. Not only artists are highlighted but also the wider community of people working around a performance, event or festival.

International Short Film Competition of the DAN.CIN.FEST 2022

After 2 years of waiting, DAN.CIN.LAB is finally celebrating the 10th anniversary of its international festival dedicated to danced films dealing with social issues.
This anniversary program will honor artists, festivals and partner structures with whom the DCL team has realized several projects in the region and abroad, creating each time unique links between artists and inhabitants.
In partnership with Citerne.live, you will be able to discover all the selected films and vote online for the Audience Award of the International Competition DAN.CIN.FEST 2022 around the theme POWER.
This prize will be awarded on Sunday 3 April in a physical ceremony at the Cinéma Le Méliès in Saint-Etienne - France.

Après 2 ans d’attente, DAN.CIN.LAB fête enfin les 10 ans de son festival international dédié aux films dansés traitant de sujets de société. 
Cette programmation anniversaire mettra à l’honneur des artistes, festivals et structures partenaires avec lesquels l’équipe de DCL a réalisé plusieurs projets dans la région et à l’étranger, créant à chaque fois des liens uniques entre artistes et habitants. 
En partenariat avec Citerne.live, vous pourrez dès le 26 mars découvrir tous les films sélectionnés et voter en ligne pour le Prix du Public de la Compétition Internationale DAN.CIN.FEST 2022 autour du thème POUVOIR.
Les prix de la Compétition DAN.CIN.FEST seront décernés le dimanche 3 Avril à 16h10 au Cinéma Le Méliès de Saint-Etienne en présence de Omar Rajeh et Mia Habis - artistes fondateurs de Citerne.live, dans le cadre d’une séance en partenariat avec le Festival International du Court Métrage de Clermont-Ferrand.


Grief's original idea takes root in the discovery of C. Pinkola Estés’ book Women Who Run With the Wolves (ed. 1989). And from F Peyrard’s strong desire to share a certain vision of mourning through wilderness. M Gozy supported these intuitions with his imagination and his sensitivity towards camera work assisted by B. Fiche’s technicity. This is the story of a sculptor and dreamer, and of her papier-mâché statue that is animated and comes to life in a long, oneiric sunset … Her hands shape the material in contact with the primordial elements. These hands give form to a life and history of sensuality and irony, play, and the unsaid… matter is lost in the complicity of gazes: the artist and the work are laid bare, as is their ambivalent relationship of love and continuous seeking. In this game of mirrors, dream and reality fuse together in a lyrical world that frames the love story without end of one who creates and of one who is created. C'est l'histoire d'une sculptrice et d'une rêveuse, et de sa statue en papier mâché qui s'anime et prend vie dans un long coucher de soleil onirique ... Ses mains façonnent la matière au contact des éléments primordiaux. Ces mains donnent forme à une vie et à une histoire de sensualité et d'ironie, de jeu et de non-dit... La matière se perd dans la complicité des regards : l'artiste et l'œuvre sont mis à nu, tout comme leur relation ambivalente d'amour et de recherche continue. The film deals with touching in the junior competition. High-level sport gives a young athlete real strength of character, but on the other hand, sometimes confronts him or her with facts that are devastating for his or her development as a young adult. Today, the numerous revelations by sportswomen are loosening tongues. Le film aborde les attouchements au sein de la compétition junior. Le sport de haut niveau donne une véritable force de caractère à un jeune sportif mais en contrepartie, le confronte quelques fois à des faits dévastateurs pour sa construction de jeune adulte. Aujourd’hui, les nombreuses révélations de sportives délient les langues. During the second confinement, a dance class will change the daily lives of many people from Marseille. This film starts from a visceral need to share this experience in order to make people want to exchange again in such a complex period. This short 14-minute documentary was shot over several months and presents the portrait of three people who come to the dance class.
How can dance participate in self-affirmation in a society where the image is central? How to reclaim your body in the public space?  More than just entertainment. Depending on the context, dance can become a means of militating and regaining power in a pacifist way.  Photos © Gabrielle Giraud


Au cours du second confinement un cours de danse va changer le quotidien de nombreux.se.s marseillais.es. Ce film part d’un besoin viscéral de partager cette expérience afin de donner envie aux gens d’échanger à nouveau en cette période si complexe. Ce court documentaire de 14minutes a était tourné en plusieurs mois et présente le portrait de trois élèves. Comment la danse peut participer à l’affirmation de soit dans une société où l’image est centrale ? Comment se réapproprier son corps dans l’espace public ? Plus qu'un simple divertissement, selon le contexte la danse peut devenir un moyen de militer et de reprendre le pouvoir de façon pacifiste et puissante. Photos © Gabrielle Giraud

Making Men examines the question of masculinity. This dance film zooms in on 4 individuals in the process of becoming men. As is expected, they proceed unquestioningly into manhood through various stages of their lives, adopting the clearly coded characteristics allowed by society.
However, a feeling of unease, in the very depths of their being, oppresses them. They feel uncertainty but also something else, harder to define…
Shot in the breathtaking landscape of Zimbabwe, the film features strong and rhythmical choreography but also a special camera work that intensifies emotions inspired by the movement. Photos © Antoine Panier

Making Men pose la question de la masculinité. Ce film de danse se concentre sur 4 jeunes hommes et leur parcours vers l’âge adulte. Comme on pouvait s'y attendre, ils y arrivent à travers différentes étapes, adoptant les caractéristiques clairement codées et autorisées par la société. Cependant, un sentiment de malaise, au plus profond de leur être, les opprime. Ils ressentent de l'incertitude mais aussi quelque chose d'autre, plus difficile à définir…
Tourné dans le paysage spectaculaire du Zimbabwe, le film présente une chorégraphie forte et rythmée mais aussi un travail de caméra particulier qui intensifie les émotions inspirées par le mouvement. Photos © Antoine Panier

The Night Manifesto is a 4-part experimental short film exploring the intimate significance of partying. It draws the portrait of a community, who wonders on Monday what they’ll do on Friday. It’s a celebration of rave culture and nightlife – it’s an ode to all those whose only mean of survival is to dance through the night, their eyes closed in the ecstasy that techno music provides. 

Le Manifeste de la Nuit est un court métrage expérimental qui essaie de démêler les raisons intimes de pourquoi on fait la fête. Il dresse le portrait d’une communauté dont la préoccupation du lundi matin est de savoir où elle sera le vendredi soir. C’est un film qui célèbre le monde de la nuit et la liberté inhérente à la culture rave. Un film pour tous ceux qui ne savent vivre qu’une fois la nuit tombée, les yeux fermés emportés par le rythme de la techno.

Can we share a dance remotely? This first "choreographonic" chain tends to create a dimension parallel to the 2020 lockdown, which enables imaginated physical contacts. Every single video has been shot individually. Consequently of a first improvised dance, each dance answers the previous one, until turning itself to the next one's reference, and so on and so forth. I want to make a film about women

Silk Paper and Bruises is an experimental stop motion dance film made by Gabriella Engdahl exploring norms and expectations in the dance industry where traditional stereotypes are still impactful. Partly based on her personal experiences and notes, it takes us through a poetic experience of hungry dressing rooms, self-doubt and cracking bones. The concept of the story is originally based on Korean Shamanism, thought to be compatible with Surrealist expression. Su-hyun, a Korean dancer hides his face in a fool mask and dances to light his dead father's path in the temple.

Willing to please his wife, Philippe is about to try a cashmere turtleneck in a clothing store. In the cabin, however, nothing happens as expected, and Philippe is assaulted by the turtleneck. Their struggle will gradually turn into a life-and-death choreography.

Dans la cabine d’essayage, contre toute attente, Philippe a beau essayer d’enfiler le col roulé, il n’y arrive pas. The Last Children is a choreographic film made in single-shot with the children of a school on the eve of its closure. Through a metaphorical fable, it bears witness to the achievement of the desertification in the rural world and the death of its villages.


Le regroupement pédagogique consiste à concentrer les écoles primaires isolées en établissements scolaires centralisés. En 2019, 400 écoles françaises sont concernées par cette réforme. Les derniers Enfants du Causse est un film chorégraphique réalisé en plan-séquence avec les enfants d'une école à la veille de sa fermeture. A travers une fable métaphorique, il témoigne de l'achèvement de la désertification du monde rural et de la mort de ses villages.

"True Sound Facade" is a poetic dance and animation film in which a dancer realises their digital self feels truer than their real world self. It was commissioned by the Barbican museum in London and stars dancer Kino McHugh.
By combining live-action and animation, the film becomes a celebration of how our inner and outer lives merge with each other playfully in the act of artistic creation. It takes inspiration from the japanese notions of 'Honne' - the true sound, one's true feelings - and tatemae - the façade we put up to live in society.


"True Sound Facade" est un film poétique de danse et d'animation dans lequel un danseur réalise que son moi numérique est plus vrai que son moi réel. Il a été commandé par le musée Barbican de Londres et met en scène le danseur Kino McHugh.
En combinant l'action réelle et l'animation, le film devient une célébration de la manière dont nos vies intérieures et extérieures fusionnent de manière ludique dans l'acte de création artistique. Il s'inspire des notions japonaises de "Honne" - le vrai son, les vrais sentiments d'une personne - et de "tatemae" - la façade que nous mettons en place pour vivre en société.

This is Us was created and performed by students from New Directions Pupil Referral Unit in Newham, London, alongside Protein’s professional dance artists.

The work was created with the young people over a three-week intensive creation period. The film is influenced by Protein’s Border Tales, exploring themes of multiculturalism and identity.
A Pupil Referral Unit is a type of school specifically set up to provide education for children who are unable to attend a mainstream school. Photos © Alice Underwood


This is Us a été créé et interprété par des étudiants de la New Directions Pupil Referral Unit à Newham, Londres, aux côtés des artistes de danse professionnels de Protein.

L'œuvre a été créée avec les jeunes sur une période de création intensive de trois semaines. Le film est influencé par Protein Border Tales, explorant les thèmes du multiculturalisme et de l’identité.
Une unité d'orientation des élèves est un type d'école spécifiquement mis en place pour fournir une éducation aux enfants qui ne peuvent pas fréquenter une école ordinaire. Photos © Alice Underwood

Alone in a mirror factory, a man paints strange patterns on his body. Questioning his reflections, he loses touch with reality. So the evil that consumes him talks through his body which begins to move, dance, contort. Slowly he's falling apart, teetering between madness and lucidity.

Seul dans une fabrique de miroirs, un homme peint d'étranges motifs sur son corps. Interrogeant ses réflexions, il perd le contact avec la réalité. Alors le mal qui le consume parle à travers son corps qui se met à bouger, danser, se contorsionner. Lentement, il s'effondre, oscillant entre folie et lucidité.

The Call of Dance is a raw, immersive collection of moments in modern Senegalese dance that captures the complexity of this new era of multiplicity.
Throughout the film, dancers’ movements embody individuality, history, emotion, and aspiration, sharing everything from solitary meditations on the nuance of the everyday to the kinetics of collective experience. At the Dakar Cultural Center, in a Krump battle, by the ocean, before a wrestling contest, at a village initiation ceremony – all of life is a site for the medium of dance, and every stage contributes its own energy. En 2014 , Diane Fardoun, réalisatrice et directrice artistique du projet, conceptualise une série de films documentaires sur les danses à travers le monde. L’Appel à la Danse projette de mettre en lumière un pays,une société, une culture en immersion dans un univers de danse, de musique, de convivialité et de spiritualité. Le premier opus a été réalisé au Sénégal. Pour son premier film, Diane, danseuse contemporaine de profession livre un véritable objet d’exploration sensorielle agrémenté de la musique enivrante du compositeur Julien Villa, de l’oeil sensible et esthétique du chef opérateur Hugo Bembi, et du travail journalistique de l’explorateur Pierre Durosoy. L’Appel à la Danse au Sénégal

An Egyptian man and woman stand on a rooftop in Down Town Cairo. Teargas from riots in the streets below rise up to the roof and gives an extreme physical memory of Cairo. One physical movement is repeated from beginning to end. Repeatedly. The two characters are seen distinctively. Their reactions and processes become magnified.
CHEST was created for an Egyptian man and woman during the riots and demonstrations in Cairo, Egypt 2013, and was shoot on a rooftop in Down Town Cairo. Teargas from riots in the streets below drew up to the roof and gave the shooting an extreme physical memory of Cairo.


Un homme et une femme égyptiens se tiennent sur un toit au centre-ville du Caire. Les gaz lacrymogènes des émeutes dans les rues du bas montent jusqu'au toit et donnent un souvenir physique extrême du Caire. Un mouvement physique est répété du début à la fin. De façon répétée. Les deux personnages sont vus distinctement. Leurs réactions et leurs processus s'amplifient.

CHEST a été créé pour un homme et une femme égyptiens pendant les émeutes et les manifestations du Caire, Egypte 2013, et a été tourné sur un toit du centre-ville du Caire. Les gaz lacrymogènes des émeutes dans les rues du bas se sont élevés jusqu'au toit et ont donné au tournage un souvenir physique extrême du Caire.
